Lorelei's Cherokee heritage is important to her and she makes sure that her graddaughter Chanel, 9, learns about it too. Today, Chanel, with eagle feathers, is attending a smudging ceremony in a local park. When it was clear that Lorelei's daughter couldn't raise her children, the 51-year-old grandmother stepped in and legally adopted Cassandra and Chanel. That was six years ago. They live in a First Nations apartment, where the girls love to sleep with their grandmother.
