Eleven month old Maghfirah was just a newborn when the earthquake and tsunami hit her west coast village of Lam Krut. Maghfirah’s mother, 30-year-old Nasriyah, and all five of her children survived. After the earthquake, Nasriyah ran to the nearby mosque with her children and, although the waters were higher than the second floor they were on, they were not swept away. The mosque saved the lives of 350 villagers. The village was scraped clean by the force of the water. Not one home survived. Maghfirah, her mother and siblings now live in a temporary shelter built by World Vision.
