These students break for a photograph. Zambian teens have grown up in terrifying times, with parents and peers succumbing to AIDS. The burden has fallen on their shoulders, and with it, new social standards and responsibilities. They are told to be open and honest about subjects that have made older generations squeamish and have learned that one bad choice can be fatal. It takes strength to grow up amid such turbulence – many have had to skip adolescence and mature overnight.
